It doesn’t start with the want ads or monster.com. It starts with you. Here are phases of most coaching processes:
Let’s pry the lid off the limitations box. Let’s forget about what you have been told you can’t do. Statistics are for actuaries and critics. What long-time assumptions need to be flushed?
How do you define success? What would fulfill you? How would you finish the sentence that starts with “In a perfect world, ________________”? Forget about the “how” and just focus on the “what”. Just for a few minutes, just long enough to get in touch with your heart. What would meet the deep desires of your heart?
If the economy is bad, propose a way for someone to make a boatload of money. If people are getting laid off, be the MVP in your department.
Get in shape. Get that certification. Graduate. Win your bride. Find your man. Get that family. Have kids. Start that business. Write the book. Find the friend. Join that group. Take that class. Live the life.
What do we know? We know that life is short. Time seems to move faster every day. What if you live life so that when it’s over you have no regrets? It’s time to take what’s yours. Don’t leave the best stuff on the table.
Some people are obsessed with the question “What if I fail?” I ask, “What if you succeed?” What if you are a part of a bigger story than you ever thought imaginable? Sure, it can be scary. Big adventures usually are. Adventure has an element of danger. But the upside is too big to ignore. It’s time to be the hero in the story. Time to fight the battle and win.
And most importantly, it’s time to get your heart back. Don’t go through life living in fear. You have a huge part of the story, bigger than you imagine. And you are more powerful than you ever thought. Is there a deep God-given desire that has been ignored or covered up for years? Let’s rediscover it together.
